2.2.2 Hit Microdramas Need These Satisfaction Points - The First Level of Basic Human Satisfaction Points: Primal/Animal-Level Needs

Returning to Stable, Basic Human Satisfaction Points

Okay, let’s return to studying the basic satisfaction points of the masses. What is that stable line? That basic line of human taste that hasn’t changed since humanity began? This lesson is about studying that. From the dawn of humanity until now, even from the animal stage, the fundamental aspects of what people find satisfying haven’t changed.

This isn’t my summary; it’s from anthropologists and psychologists. Human satisfaction points are divided into three levels. The first level relates to two core drivers. Let’s just say the first level consists of primal, animalistic needs.

The Nature of Animal-Level Satisfaction Points

This is what I call the first level. Why is it animal-level? The first level, you can understand as primal/animalistic. Even animals have these. These are the two stable, unchanging human satisfaction points I mentioned.

The first level of satisfaction points is animalistic. Think about animals—aren’t they mostly about these two things? First, animals need to reproduce, right? They get satisfaction related to mating. Then, to reproduce, animals need to compete, to conquer others, secure resources. Humans are the same: to get more food, more money, more resources, more sports cars—this is about conquest.

The Essence and Manifestation of Mating Needs

In traditional stories, we understand this as related to sexual desire and dominance/violence. This makes everything clear. Think about it, whether in microdramas or traditional film/TV, aren’t these two elements the most prevalent? First, elements related to mating/romance. All love stories fall into this category—it’s also the largest category.

Because we are driven to reproduce, we compete and conquer. Look at asexually reproducing species; they don’t conquer, they don’t fight. Species with equal distribution, where females are larger than males. Why? Females bear offspring, so they need better physique.

But look at species that fight for reproductive resources, like gorillas, lions—the males are much larger than females because they need to fight. So, mating drive is the primary need; it’s the fundamental origin. With this fundamental drive, we then need to conquer, which relates to violence/dominance.

The Multiple Manifestations of Conquest Elements

Regarding conquest, many students don’t fully grasp what elements fall under this. As said, conquest encompasses all things related to power, strength, force. These are elements of violence, of conquest. You can understand conquest as asserting power/dominance.

So, anything related to strength: weapons represent violence. Violence isn’t just fighting or war. Displaying equipment/gear is too. Haven’t you seen many clips where showing off cool gear is a satisfaction point? Or having many cars—Fast & Furious is typical conquest/violence. Driving cars is conquest; a car is an extension of our legs. Weapons are an extension of our hands.

Let me tell you, guys love this satisfaction point—extensions of limbs. When we were kids, finding a stick that was long and straight made us super happy, right? All boys have that memory. If you could ride a motorbike holding a stick, even cooler! Also, various forms of institutional power/force. And of course, a very important element within this ‘violence/force’ category is money. Money is also a form of power, right?

Summary of First-Level Satisfaction Points

So, you can understand this as the first level of demand—the primal, animal-level needs of the audience. The second level of demand we’ll discuss is the human level—evolved from animal to human needs.
