2.3.2 Satisfaction Points Must Resonate with the Audience - Specific Satisfaction Point Types and Topic Selection Strategies
The Foundation of Topic Selection: Satisfaction Points + Resonance Points
We said that topic selection = satisfaction points + resonance points. We understand what satisfaction points are, and we understand what resonance points are. Now we need to learn what specific satisfaction point types exist for microdrama creation and how to use them for topic selection.
The First Level: Primal/Animal-Level Satisfaction Points
The first level is animal-level satisfaction points. We said there are two animal-level satisfaction points: mating and conquest. But in practical microdrama creation, these manifest in many specific forms. Let’s look at these specific satisfaction point types.
Mating-Related Satisfaction Points
First, the satisfaction points related to mating: this includes all forms of romantic/sexual satisfaction. For men, this might be “I have a beautiful girlfriend,” or “I have a beautiful wife,” or “I have many beautiful girlfriends.” For women, it might be “I have a handsome boyfriend,” or “I have a handsome husband,” or “I have many handsome boyfriends.”
But we also have satisfaction points like “I am the one being pursued,” or “I am the one being protected,” or “I am the one being cherished.” These are all mating-related satisfaction points, just expressed differently.
Conquest-Related Satisfaction Points
Second, the satisfaction points related to conquest: this includes all forms of power, strength, and dominance. For men, this might be “I am rich,” or “I am powerful,” or “I am strong,” or “I can hit people.” For women, it might be “I have a rich boyfriend,” or “I have a powerful boyfriend,” or “I have a strong boyfriend,” or “My boyfriend can hit people.”
But we also have satisfaction points like “I can defeat the bad guys,” or “I can get revenge,” or “I can achieve justice.” These are all conquest-related satisfaction points.
The Second Level: Human-Level Satisfaction Points
The second level is human-level satisfaction points. We said there are three human-level satisfaction points: superiority, belonging, and order.
Superiority-Related Satisfaction Points
Superiority-related points include “I am better than others,” or “I am stronger than others,” or “I can beat others,” or “I can show off.”
Belonging-Related Satisfaction Points
Belonging-related points include “I have friends,” or “I have family,” or “I have a team,” or “I have a group.”
Order-Related Satisfaction Points
Order-related points include “I can fix things,” or “I can clean things,” or “I can organize things,” or “I can make things better.”
Practical Topic Selection Strategies
When selecting a topic, first identify your target audience’s main satisfaction point needs. Then, find the most suitable resonance point that matches their life situation. Finally, combine them into a compelling story premise.
For example, if your target audience is office workers who feel powerless at work, you might choose “Workplace Bullying” as the resonance point, paired with “Revenge & Face-Slapping” as the satisfaction point. Or if your target audience is students under exam pressure, you might choose “Exam Failure” as the resonance point, paired with “Cheat Code & Underdog Victory” as the satisfaction point.
Remember, the best topics are those that combine strong satisfaction points with strong resonance points. This is what makes audiences pay.
